Crab and Snail are fast talkers who sometimes have a pair of barnacles join in the conversation from time to time. The pictures are perfect for young readers (and older readers, too!). The cute jokes and the way the two friends act together is funny and sweet. The absurdity doesn’t even matter, as the whale seems to be real, but probably doesn’t surface and just stays under the water, talking to the two from afar. When a seagull comes along who supposedly knows everything and introduces them to the fact that there is an invisible whale out in the water, Crab and Snail jump at the chance to get to know the whale. Their facial expressions in the images is truly indicative of their personalities, which makes the story all that much more fun to read.
